New York STAR Program: How to Track Your Property Tax Relief Check
Residents of New York who qualify for the
School Tax Relief (STAR) Program are receiving financial help, as the state is currently sending out property tax relief checks.
This support comes at a good time, especially as school resumes and families face extra expenses.
What is the STAR Program?
The STAR Program helps homeowners pay less in
property taxes. Depending on your situation, you may be eligible for one of two types of STAR benefits:
1. Basic STAR
- No age requirement.
- You must own and live in your main home.
- Your household income should be $500,000 or less.
2. Enhanced STAR (E-STAR)
- You, your spouse, or a sibling living with you must be at least 65 years old by the end of the calendar year.
- You must own and live in your main home.
- You already have the Basic STAR exemption.
- For 2025, your total household income must be $107,300 or less.
How to Track Your STAR Program Check
If you're waiting for your STAR check, you can find out when it will be sent using an
online tool from the
New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Here's how:
- Go to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance website.
- Use the search tool for “STAR Credit Delivery Schedule.”
- Select your county, school district, and city or town to get information specific to your area.
This tool helps you know if your municipality or school district has already received STAR checks.
