August 2026 Social Security Payment Dates and Benefit Breakdown
The
Social Security Administration (SSA) is sending out monthly retirement and disability benefit payments for August 2026.
While maximum individual payments can reach up to $5,181 per month this year, most beneficiaries receive lower amounts based on their lifetime earnings and the age at which they first claimed benefits.
August 2026 Payment Dates
For most retirees and disability recipients, payout dates are based on the day of the month you were born:
- Birthdays from the 1st to the 10th: Paid on Wednesday, August 12.
- Birthdays from the 11th to the 20th: Paid on Wednesday, August 19.
- Birthdays from the 21st to the 31st: Paid on Wednesday, August 26.
Earlier Payments
Certain groups received their August funds earlier in the month:
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI): Delivered on Friday, July 31, because August 1 fell on a Saturday.
- Pre-May 1997 Claims: Beneficiaries who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 received their payment on Monday, August 3.
How Benefit Amounts Are Calculated
To qualify for the top payout of $5,181 per month, a retiree must have earned high wages across a 35-year working history and delayed claiming benefits until age 70. Claiming earlier reduces the maximum possible benefit:
- Claiming at Age 70: Maximum $5,181 per month
- Claiming at Full Retirement Age: Maximum $4,152 per month
- Claiming at Age 62: Maximum $2,969 per month
All Social Security and SSI benefit amounts reflect a
2.8% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) added for 2026 to keep pace with inflation.
If your expected deposit does not appear on your scheduled date, allow a few additional business days for bank processing before contacting the SSA.
