Taylor Swift Shows Support for Kamala Harris for President
Taylor Swift, a famous singer with fans all around the world, has just shown her support for Vice President Kamala Harris for President. She said this right after a debate with the former President Donald J. Trump.
Swift's decision to support Harris brings a lot of attention to Harris's campaign and might help her to get more young people to vote for her.
After watching the debate,
Taylor Swift told her 283 million Instagram followers that she's going to vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.
She said she's voting for Harris because Harris fights for the things that Swift believes in. Swift called herself
“Childless Cat Lady” in her post, a name taken from what Senator JD Vance, who was running with Mr. Trump, said about women who don't have children.
She also shared a picture with her cat Benjamin Button.
Effects of Taylor’s Political Opinion And Speaking Up Against Trump’s Campaign
People were waiting to see if Swift would support Harris. Swift has said before that she regrets not speaking against Trump when he first ran for president in 2016.
Since then, Swift has been more open about her political beliefs, like her support for
abortion rights. The timing of her support was a surprise because in the last election, she supported Joe Biden a little closer to Election Day.
Swift has a lot of influence. Last year, she asked her followers to register to vote and because of that, over 35,000 people signed up to vote on Vote.org. This time, she shared a similar link to Vote.gov.
In her support message, Swift also said she's worried about
"artificial intelligence" (AI) and fake news. She mentioned that AI made things that falsely said she supported Trump, and Trump even shared this. She took this chance to clear up her real feelings about the election.
Pushback from Trump's Supporters and Conservative Voters
Despite Swift's support, some people from Trump's campaign think it only shows the Democratic Party is for rich people. Swift got some negative responses from conservatives in her last political move when she supported Biden and Harris in 2020.
Her support for Harris this time was highly speculated, especially after she posted a photo that seemed to hint at her support for the Vice President.
A Closer Look at Taylor’s Support for Kamala Harris and Advocacy for Voter Participation
Swift is known for her music career that has lasted almost 20 years and spans both country and pop music. She's also known for dating football player Travis Kelce, and she's just about to finish a big world tour.

Kamala Harris's campaign events have a lot of energy, with big-name music performers like Megan Thee Stallion, and they’re attracting young people. Polls suggest that Harris is more popular with young voters compared to Biden, and Swift's support reflects this.
Swift also mentioned that she liked Harris's choice of running mate,
Governor Tim Walz, because of his long-standing support for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women's rights. Walz himself thanked Swift on TV, and as a cat owner himself, he expressed his gratitude.
Swift has always encouraged her fans to vote. She once posted a picture of herself waiting in line to vote which fans thought was her secretly supporting Hillary Clinton.
Swift's first public political move was in 2018 when she supported a Democrat for the Senate in Tennessee, although that Democrat didn’t win.
She admitted later that she wanted to support Clinton in 2016 but was afraid it could do more harm than good because of the way people criticized her at the time.
