The 2024 Paris Paralympics: A Celebration of Courage and Determination

The 2024 Paris Paralympics is a stage where athletes with disabilities from around the world showcase their skills. Many of these athletes are resilient and triumphant even beyond the sports arena.

We dived into their background and listend to what they have to say, and what we found are inspiring stories. Here are a few of those athletes:

Sheetal Devi

Sheeta Devi is a young athlete from India. She was born with a rare condition called phocomelia, which resulted in her not having fully developed arms.

Despite this, Sheetal found her calling in archery, but instead of using her hands, she skillfully utilizes her feet to shoot arrows.  At 17 years old, she has made history as the first female archer without arms to win an international title.

Avani Lekhara

Another remarkable athlete from India is Avani Lekhara. After a car accident, she was left her paralyzed from the waist down, but has shown undying perseverance.

Avani’s commitment to shooting has not just been about participating; it's about excelling, which she has done by winning gold in back-to-back Paralympic Games.

Jodie Grinham

Great Britain’s Jodie Grinham proved that being pregnant is no barrier to competing at the highest level.

Seven months into her pregnancy, she participated in the games and won a gold and a bronze medal in compound archery, becoming the first pregnant athlete to achieve such a feat at the Paralympics.

Dayna Crees

Dayna Crees of Australia had a challenging journey marked by her struggle with hereditary spastic paraplegia, a condition she was born with, leading to muscle weakness.

The bullying she faced in high school could have deterred her spirit, but instead, it fueled her determination. Dropping out to focus on her well-being was a turning point that paved the way for her success in javelin throw, where she recently won a bronze medal at her first Paralympic Games.

Tracy Otto

The story of American para-archer Tracy Otto is a gripping tale of survival. After a violent attack by an ex-boyfriend left her with severe injuries, Tracy found solace and strength in archery.

Her road to recovery was not just about physical healing but also about reclaiming her life and identity, culminating in her winning gold at the Para Pan American Championships.
